This little gem only set my papa back £5!
It's a 50s lipstick tube with attached mirror, brass plated and although it's in need of a little cleanup, the hinge is very sound and everything works beautifully.
My dad suggested having an 'R' engraved on the rectangle
'Island Red- Goya'
Tempted to sanitise and use- any opinions?
I wish I could find refills for this- if I decide against sanitising the lippie, I'm probably going to have to melt down another lipstick and mould it, or cut it down to fit. It's a shame makeup things aren't as beautiful as they used to be- vintage lipstick tubes and compacts have a sense of luxury about them that isn't really replicated in plastic.
Does anyone else love vintage?

Oh wow, that's so beautiful! I love vintage cosmetics things, particularly perfume bottles. Everything was so classy and luxurious looking in those days.
Lipstick is meant to go off after a few years, but i doubt it will do you any harm. I reckon sanitise it and give it a go :)
Sanitize it! Its probably not the best idea but its so beautiful! If not, I'd just use it as a mirror.
That's lovely- you should totally get an R engraved. :) How does one sanitize a lipstick?
Thats so amazing! What a find :)
Lillian- I have a vintage compact as well, but I have to find a new puff for it. It's in my profile picture! Definite class and luxury.
It doesn't have any smell at all, so maybe it hasn't gone off?
Eden Blue- It can't go too badly wrong... I'm not too scared of germs.
Heather- I think I will! Depending on cost... You use isopropyl alcohol or equivalent.
Surreallife- Love finding cheap vintage goodies- lowered price just for needing cleaning!
the Besame classic collection is pretty close
Oh thanks so much!
This is really cool. I love vintage cosmetics.
Vintage cosmetics make me feel so glamorous :)
What!? So cheap! And there's still the original lipstick in there, too?! What a find! It's so chic n gorgeous! I love vintage!
